South of France Wine Dinner

Our first wine dinner of the year was a big success.  The focus of the dinner was the Grenache-based reds from the south of France.  The first red was the Tour Vieille Pinede 2009 from Collioure; light and elegant with supple tannins, this wine was fantastic with roasted quail.  We followed that with Grand Veneurs Cotes du Rhone Reserve 2010, which had more weight and complexity. The next red, Domaine Lafage's Rousillon 2010, showcased bright raspberry and red currant fruit and an earthy finish.  We finished with Xavier's Vacqueyras 2009, a full-bodied, concentrated wine whose smokey blackberry and pepper flavors were a perfect match for the herb-crusted leg of lamb. This was a great way to start the new year.
